Project:  Northeast Passage Adaptive Sports and Recreation Volunteer

Description: 

The mission of Northeast Passage is to empower people living with disabling conditions, both visible and invisible, to define, pursue and achieve whole life health, community engagement and fulfillment through the purposeful use of sports and recreation; to develop and promote best practices in the fields of Therapeutic Recreation and Adaptive Sports. 

Northeast Passage does this by developing, delivering, and evaluating innovative barrier-free recreation and health promotion programs. Our guiding principles are promoting client independence through education and problem solving, creating opportunities, and collaborating with others to create a strong network of accessible recreation.

We listen carefully to consumers’ needs, think creatively to solve problems, attend to details, work as a team and explore the possibilities!

The Adaptive Sports and Recreation program offers a spectrum of service, from entry-level instruction to ongoing recreation and competitive sports. This program provides the appropriate level of support and challenge for clients of all abilities. Northeast Passage offers ongoing programs in different sports of particular interest to people living in New England.

Responsibilities: 

Our professional staff is responsible for planning and implementing programs. Volunteers will generally assist with the management of the event including setup and breakdown, basic instruction and ensuring participant’s safety. Some positions require a certain level of expertise or training and are reserved for volunteers that meet the criteria.

Volunteers are an integral part of our team and are vital to the success of our programs.

Time commitment: 

Varies based upon sport and/or event.

Start date/end date: Rolling

Requirements:

At Northeast Passage, a volunteer is defined as any student, intern or community member assisting with program facilitation and support.

Northeast Passage is seeking volunteers that:

  • Are passionate about a specific program or sport and have experience you would like to share.

  • Are interested in Northeast Passage’s mission for personal, professional or academic reasons.

  • Want to give back.

Northeast Passage has a variety of volunteer opportunities available in the Adaptive Sports & Recreation Programs. Opportunities vary by sport, schedule, commitment level and location/facility.
